English as a Second Language for English Language Learners (ELL)

Mission Statement of The Bloomfield Hills School District

"The mission of the Bloomfield Hills School District is to empower learners to become architects of their futures building on a foundation of: scholarship, citizenship, integrity, trust, service, respect for self and others with joy and passion for learning."

The Bloomfield Hills School District seeks to provide every child, regardless of national origin or native language, quality, and meaningful educational instruction. Consequently, ELL students who are limited-English proficient (LEP) are provided instructional services through an English as Second Language (ESL)/Bilingual Program which is designed to meet their unique needs. ESL Newcomers' Program

West Hills houses the District middle school ESL Newcomers' Program designed to instruct ELL students that posses limited English proficiency. LEP students receive a broad spectrum of individualized, specialized services based on their individual needs. The district's ESL/Bilingual Program includes four basic components:

  • English as a second language instruction
  • Content area instruction
  • Reading/language arts
  • Cultural awareness
