Sports are offered during 4 sport seasons for 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th graders.

All students must have a completed physical form on file in the WHMS office to be eligible to participate in extra-curricular sports. A new form is needed every school year and may be completed after April 15 for the following school year. All students must pay an Athletic/Club fee of $100 to be eligible to participate in any clubs or sports for the school year. This must be paid before a student can practice or try-out with any sport team. Please bring or send payment to the West Hills front office.

West Hills belongs to the COMSAC league (Central Oakland Middle School Athletic Conference). Several schools were added to the league for the 2008-09 school year. The league consists of West Hills, East Hills, Bloomfield Hills, Cranbrook, Country Day, Berkshire, Covington, Derby, Royal Oak, Anderson (Berkley), Norup (Berkley), Ferndale, Hazel Park.

Season 1

Football
7th and 8th graders only. A new rule that went into effect during the 08-09 school year allows any 7th or 8th grader to play regardless of their weight. Football is a travel team. There are no tryouts so every student who comes out for the team will make it. Practice is every day after school.

Girls Basketball
5 grade basketball is an intramural sport. There are no tryouts so every student who comes out for the team will make it. They do not compete against other schools. Practices and games are in the morning before the start of the school day, 2 days per week. A schedule will be given at the beginning of the season. Students may still participate if there is a scheduling conflict with any school sponsored club.

6 grade basketball is an intramural sport. There are no tryouts so every student who comes out for the team will make it. They do not compete against other schools. Practices and games are in the morning before the start of the school day, Monday - Thursday. Students may still participate if there is a scheduling conflict with any school sponsored club.

7/8 grade basketball is a travel team. There are separate teams for 7th and 8th graders. The number of players who sign up will determine whether there are tryouts. Practice is every day after school. Students who do not make the team are encouraged to join the cross country team.

Girls’ Tennis is a travel team for 6th, 7th, 8th graders. Tryouts will be held at the beginning of the season. 23 girls will make the team. Practices are every day after school. Students who do not make the team are encouraged to join the cross country team.

Boys’ Soccer
5 grade soccer is an intramural sport. There are no tryouts so every student who comes out for the team will make it. They do not compete against other schools. Practices and games are after school till 4:30, 2 days per week. A schedule will be given at the beginning of the season. Students may still participate if there is a scheduling conflict with any school sponsored club.

6 grade soccer does not have tryouts so every student who comes out for the team will make it.
Practice is 4 days per week after school, Monday – Thursday. There are three game days during the season.

7/8 grade soccer is a travel team. There is one team which includes 7th and 8th graders. The number of players who sign up will determine whether there are tryouts. Practice is every day after school. Those who don't make the team are encouraged to join the Cross Country team.

The number of participants will determine the number of teams. All games are played at West Hills. There are playoffs and a championship game at the end of the season.

Students are expected to have basic skills for swimming. Practice is every day after school at Andover. Practice is during the time frame of 5:00pm – 7:00pm. Students are expected to provide their own transportation to every practice.

Sports Sampler is for 5th grade boys and girls. Sport sampler will meet 2 days per week after school. It will be designed by the coach and include a variety of sports such as floor hockey, kickball, whiffleball among others.

Baseball is a travel team for 7th and 8th graders only. There is one team which includes 7th and 8th graders. The number of players who sign up will determine whether there are tryouts. Practice is every day after school. Those who don't make the team are encouraged to join the Track team.

Softball
6 grade softball does not have tryouts so every student who comes out for the team will make it. Practice is 4 days per week after school, Monday – Thursday. There are four game days during the season.
